ursusani,

It's called the "Garnet Hill Loop". One end is quite close to Tower Junction, where the Northeast Entrance Road leaves the Mammoth-Tower Road. The other end is about a quarter mile down the NE Entrance Road, at the point where the road starts descending toward the Yellowstone River. The trail is about 8 miles if you do the entire loop.

I recommend this trail as an early and late season trek. Between late June and mid-August, it can be way hot, due to the open sections and low elevation. This trail offers a little bit of a lot of environments, ranging from sage prairie to treed boulder-intensive hillsides. It parallels the Yellowstone River for several miles. Over the years, we have seen plenty of the plentiful critters, like bison, coyote, deer, and elk out there, along with the occasional badger, black bear, marmot, and pronghorn.

To some extent, it reminds me of the Beaver Pond Loop, because of its ecological diversity, but it does not draw the crowd that the Beaver Pond Loop does.
