Black Dragon's Cauldron, foreground, with Sour Lake in the distance.
It's funny but in my memory this area looked quite different 15 or 20 years ago. I guess that's the deal where geothermal activity is concerned. Anyway, I remember bobby-socks trees (killed by the poisonous water sucked up their trunks, leaving naked gray snags with white "sock" on the first couple of feet of trunk) and they all seem to be gone now. I may be quite wrong, but I also thought Black Dragon's Cauldron used to be muddier and more viscous than it is now. Old time regulars can, I'm sure, either confirm my memory or tell me it's time to get checked for Alzheimer's.
