And many others aren't faring well in the wolf-watching department either, especially in Little America-Lamar, given the paucity and small sizes of the packs still in the area. However, we got a lucky tip that there was action right at the cone, so we boogied along and squeezed the car off the road.
We climbed a few feet up the hill across from the cone where we got a good look at the spot near the river where NPS had dragged a bull elk the "East Lamar Canyon" pack had brought down near the road the day before. As you know the distance is pretty far there, but with binocs one very large antler stuck up clearly above the sage to mark the spot.

Next thing we know, here comes "Middle Gray" up the hill 50 or 75 yards to the east, hauling a good-sized chunk of elk.
