Magpies EVERYWHERE, including this chick who despite his size wasn't much of a flyer. Note he doesn't yet have the long magpie tail feathers, and his eyes are blue-grey, a sign of lingering babyhood.
Apparently at this stage the chicks can fly well enough to get into the wolf pen, but not out of it, at least not in a fast vertical lift. So our woofie friends DO get in a little hunting in the early summer :-)
