My 300 mm zoom on a 12 mp camera is MUCH harder to get a sharp picture from than more "primitive" versions. Tiniest shake results in blur; littlest bit of humidity or dust in the air results in blur.
Keep it as still as possible and shoot at as high a speed as possible. Very temperamental, but when you get it right the results are amazing.
