Last night I happened upon a show on TV called
I'm pretty sure most of the part of it I saw, at least, was shot in Yellowstone and/or surrounds, but since I tuned in very near the end, I don't know for certain. It had fantastic footage of a grizzly chasing down a spotted elk calf (no, the calf didn't make it, but it did outrun the bear for a little while).
Anyway, they also had a terrific scene of a great gray owl vole-delivery and the owlet swallowing the vole whole, one amazingly quick gulp. So clearly an adult owl would not need to chop up a vole to swallow it if a kid doesn't, I'm betting my Tetons owl was intending to deliver its prey to its offspring, since it didn't eat it on the spot.
Learning a lot about owls all of a sudden :-)
