Mr. Kor looks like my kinda guy. It's amazing the amount of guts climbers used to have back in the "old days". Nowadays climbing seems like a dangerous sport to the layman, but in reality just hanging out at a crag and doing some single-pitch climbing (or even some short multi-pitch) is actually quite safe because of all of the extensive protection systems used. Now mountaineering, on the other hand, is still a risky business. Maybe not quite as risky as it used to be, but there's just so much that can go wrong in the mountains, and so much that's completely out of your control. I think that's part of what draws me too it....I'm naturally a control-freak, so it's refreshing to be in the mountains where I am only in control of my own actions and the mountain ultimately has the final say.
