There are some mellow places along that stream suitable for picnicking and fishing, but plenty of spots where one can slip on the cobbles, and get washed into faster water. It's not a swimming stream by any means. The water is snow-melt, so probably no fun for even wading.
If you do pause along that stretch, keep your eyes on the kid at all times.
Above Cooke City, the stream is an old mine dump that is being re-mediated. High probability of arsenic, cyanide and mercury.
