who was probably too young (they didn't give her age in the article) to have adequately developed judgement is such a shame. Who knows whether the parent were unable to rein her in, or distracted, or not of sound judgement themselves.

I saw a young woman - late teens or early 20's, step over the low stone barrier at Calcite in FLIP-FLOPS and wander around on the bb-like gravel at the verge of the canyon. When I told her how unwise that was she pouted and gave me the stink-eye. Her mother heard what I said and read me the riot act, told me to mind my own business. This was the same summer the mother of a family had backed up to the edge of the canyon for someone to take her photo and plunged right in to her death, just in that same area where this young woman was so foolishly risking life and limb.

All you can do is try.
