You walked up Lemonade Creek most likely. The Solfatara trail parallels the creek for a wee bit, but then starts climbing toward the power line corridor. The hill would have been on your left as you walked up Lemonade Creek.
There is nothing big and scary about the hill. It's just enough of a hill to be intimidating to anyone who is either (1) not used to doing hills, or (2) has fitness or health issues that complicate doing hills.
As long as you take it easy on the uphill, your group should be fine.
