For anyone who frequents this page, and doesn't hang out on the Loon Zone, I am passing on the info Dave posted on the Loon Zone, regarding the passing of John Craighead at the age of 100. I posted a link to his obituary from The Missoulian beneath Dave's post. Interested folk can use that link or simply Google John Craighead. All the major newspapers in Montana are carrying the story. I am going to post a link to the Craighead Institute's website on this post. They have a slide show that contains a combination of historic photos of the Craighead brothers at work in the 1960s and 1970s, along with more recent images of the Institute's work, including April's study of pikas.

Those photos of Frank and John will stir prized memories in those old enough to remember the National Geographic television coverage of the Craighead family and their grizzly bear research back in the late 1960s. For the younger set, if you are a grizzly bear fan, you owe it to yourself to study up on the Craigheads, their work, and their legacy.
