Traveling Bear,
I hardly know where to begin. I have watched this recurring nightmare for a long time.
Twenty to thirty years ago, we worried about the proposed Crown Butte mine, Ski Yellowstone, and the Church Universal and Triumphant wanting to do geothermal drilling just outside the north boundary. Thankfully, with the noteworthy assistance of some high profile individuals and high readership electronic and print media outlets, we beat back the mine threat. We raised hell about Ski Yellowstone, only to see Tim Blixseth (Plum Creek Lumber) and the Forest Service negotiate a deal that led to the creation of the Yellowstone Club near Big Sky and a land swap that opened the door to new logging in prime grizzly habitat in the Bear Creek drainage, just north of the park.
Thanks for sounding the alarm. I am thrilled that Sen. Tester has joined the battle. That is heavyweight help!
I submitted my comments to Montana DEQ. It was super easy via their user-friendly "fill in the blanks" electronic form. I'm providing the direct link in this post for the benefit of anyone wanting to go straight there.
