Beej,

I did a quick search, and what I found makes it appear that this was one little piece of a 28 page paper issued in 1972, by Robert L. Christiansen and H. Richard Blank Jr. It seems portions of it have been updated over time.

The link will take you to the abstract. What you want to do is click on the "document" link, just below the header. That will take you to the 28 page .pdf document.

I can't tell you how many times I have examined that contact zone on Everts via binoculars and even scope from Mammoth. I have been on the grassy area immediately above it several times while doing group hikes on Mt. Everts. I just have not been up there with anyone who was as excited as I am about visiting that contact zone.

I'm glad to hear Larry Loendorff is still around and still instructing. John Uhler and I attended a 3 or 3.5 day presentation he did for the NPS in Mammoth back in 2001.

When I'm back in Montana, we will have to set up a scope at Calcite Springs Overlook, and check for any contact zones visible in the basalt formation across the river. (I've been scoping that area for decades in the summer, watching the bighorn sheep babies in June and the osprey nests throughout the summer.)
