A couple of recommendations for when you are up for indoor treats:

1. National Museum of Wildlife Art, immediately north of the town of Jackson, across from the Elk Refuge west of the main highway. Just the building is a gem, always worth a visit, a very fine museum with permanent and special exhibits, an outdoor sculpture walk, and fabulous view of the elk refuge. One day years ago I stopped by and Jane Goodall was there as part of events around a special sculpture exhibit, one of which was a life-sized group of chimps in bronze. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to shake her hand and thank her in person for her amazing contributions!

2. Ask at the Moose VC if the Murie Ranch (https://www.nps.gov/grte/learn/historyculture/murie.htm) is open for tours. It's a short walk through the woods from the VC, or you can drive. They depend on volunteers to lead the tours, so it's possible they won't be operating in October. If not, save it for another trip! The Muries' lives and contributions are worth learning about.
