I'm just starting to plan a week long trip to Yellowstone for this May. Still haven't settled on dates yet but am leaning towards the second half of the month. Would like to avoid major crowds, so I'm assuming that we should avoid Memorial Day weekend. My last trip was about 12 years ago in July and stayed in the park (Mammoth, Old Faithful Inn and Canyon). I have Janet Chapel's book and have found out when the various roads and lodges open.
Anyway, I'm looking for advice on timing of our visit, best places and hikes to see wildlife. We're mid 60s and in relatively decent shape. Also is there anyplace in or near the park that do kayak tours? THANKS!!
