Sunday broke cold and windy, but no rain. We started with a visit to the Artists Paintpots then continued on to The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. We managed to get my mother-in-law to the brink of the Upper Falls, which she through was just amazing, commenting repeatedly throughout the day about the power of the water. Moving on, we enjoyed the view from Artist Point (surprisingly, this area was not overly crowded, though Artists Paintpots had been earlier in the day, even with the bad weather). Lunch in the picnic area where South Rim Drive crosses the river then a beautiful, cold, windy drive over Dunraven Pass. Unfortunately, not a single grizzly was in sight.

Eager to get to the Terraces, we skipped Tower Fall, then got stuck in two separate bear jams between Tower and Roosevelt. The entire family thrilled at the chance to see cubs playing relatively near to the road (Rangers had safety well in hand). Once free of the traffic we drove on to Mammoth, drove down to Gardiner to check out the Roosevelt Arch, then on back up to the Terraces my wife s favorite part of the park. A brief stop to walk out past Liberty Cap to view the active area of the lower terraces, then a drive to the Upper Terrace Loop. Thanks to Ballpark Frank s advice we knew to walk all the way down past Canary Spring to see the spring next door. It indeed was worth the walk and we collected many very nice photos.
