VC, for the first time in our many years of coming to the park we spent extended time at and near the hotel. We have stayed in the lodge cabins before but this was our first time in the hotel cabins. We are already planning on returning next year. I thought that the lobby was great. Calm, peaceful and comfortable most of the time. We spent time at this exact spot viewing and reading. I guess that I need to preface all of this with the fact that we have been to Yellowstone many times and do not feel the need to rush around but choose to relax and hopefully enjoy the park on its terms. So, we had a late dinner one evening, yes expensive but great food and service. We discovered that while the price of the breakfast buffet was the same as at Mammoth, there were many more choices and again the service was very good. Being folks that like to eat, the gem discovery of the trip was the small deli just down the hall from the main desk. It is the home of a mean sandwich at a great price, and is open late. The guys making the sandwiches were among the friendliest and best at great service that I have ever experienced in the park. The location makes for easy access to Hayden Valley for early morning and evening viewing. We saw the Canyon pack several times. We did experience a huge hatch of bugs one morning including mosquitoes as we walked along the lake front but escaped with our lives. Can't wait to return.
