I drove from GTNP to and through Hayden Valley early this morning. Conditions are
extremely smoky and visibility is limited. The Bison appear to be in the middle of the
rut and that's the only game in town. The smoke presents some hazardous
conditions for animals on the roadways. Nearing Canyon from the south the smoke
clears and Washburn was clear. One thinks that the northern section of the park will
be the best unless you enjoy terrible viewing conditions.
There are a ton of people here, and most campgrounds appeared to have filled last
night. Without some form of reservations, this will be a bust for a lot of folks like me
who wing it.
One magnificent 6x6 Bull Elk dining close to the road was the highlight of the morning
journey. And of course the smiling Bison Bulls.
