Rick,

I have always enjoyed your trip reports, for a variety of reasons:

1.) You include enough text along with your photos, so there is a story line.

2.) There is the "human" element throughout your trip reports, which allows us to keep up with how your daughters and mother are doing.

3.) You provide trip reports on places other than Yellowstone, which is a bit of "trip report spice", some welcome diversity on the Loon Zone.

4.) There is a learning opportunity for anyone who has not visited the area you are reporting on, or has not engaged in a particular area.

You made an important point regarding your lack of interest in trip reports consisting of only text, and colorless narrative. Yes, those are not as appealing as the more elaborate reports. I can understand that some individuals will skip over those type of reports, often because they have limited discretionary time to expend. My tendency is to start reading, then gradually make an assessment as to whether the person generating the report seems to know the subject matter. That influences my behavior, in terms of how intensively I continue on. When Paul was delivering his daily reports, I read everything he presented. His creative style and sophisticated use of humor and sarcasm kept me riveted. When I read the trip report of a relative newcomer, I always consider the possibility that this contributor may be a diamond in the rough. I've certainly seen that in the evolution of many photographers on these chat pages over the years.

Like ALR, I would encourage you to continue doing trip reports. I always enjoy them.

Ballpark
