So Mr. Tetons Black Bear was photographed in early evening of May 23, just south of Pilgrim Creek Road in the Tetons. The morning of May 24, we get up early to go see what we could see...the turnoff to Pilgrim Creek Road is just ahead. And just ahead of that, a bear jam - YAY! This beautiful morning (be still my racing heart!) it was Queen of the Tetons, 399, and two cubs. We learned that one of last years three COYs, sadly, did not make it through the winter. This the first time she's not been able to emerge from her den with all three (this being her third set of triplets). Who knows, maybe that increases the survival chances of the remaining two?

Here's Momma Bear where we first saw her, on the south side of the road. She looks great for an 18 year-old super mother. Speaking of mother, you can just see behind her left foreleg that she's still nursing the kids.
(I sure got a good look at a lot of "private" bear anatomy on this trip.)
