Hi Gracie,

Bozeman Camera Repair, which is located on the east side of 7th, north of Main, buys and sells used cameras. Be prepared to be disappointed. In a discussion about the market for used digital cameras versus the historic market for used film cameras, back about 10 years ago, the owner told me that the market for used digital cameras parallels that for other used digital devices, like laptops and personal computers, meaning there is a steep drop-off in value. I am sitting on a virtual collection of old digital cameras that I'm not sure what to do with, because they have little, if any value. Years ago, when I sold off my film gear and expensive Nikkor ED/IF telephoto lenses, Bozeman Camera Repair took them under consignment, meaning they offered them for sale to other customers, and took a percentage of the sale price. I found it a fair arrangement, and was quite happy with the outcome, even though it stretched over a year to a year and a half to dispose of everything.

If your Olympus is more than 2 or 3 years old, I would be surprised if there is much of a market for it.

To add to what Hoot has offered regarding long lenses, when you get out around 300 mm, you are at the outer edge of economical telephoto reach. Yes, there are outfits like Sigma and Tamron that offer more powerful lenses, but they still cost considerably more than something 300 mm or less, and the quality may disappoint. In the old days, my Nikkor 300 mm f/2.8 ED/IF lens was almost $3,000 MSRP, and my Nikkor 500l mm f/4 ED/IF lens was about $5,000 MSRP. (I did not pay MSRP for either. Otherwise, I never would have been able to afford them.)

If you are anywhere near Bozeman, visit f/11 on East Main and have them show you some of the options for increasing your telephoto "reach". Be prepared for sticker shock!
