There is a lot of Loon history attached to that venue.
I always felt it was under-utilized, and now we see the risk of having an under-utilized resource in the public sector. In times of austere budgets, it is hard to cost-justify anything that takes up that much space, unless it is really getting a workout. I suspect that the park familiarization mission that was supported by the films shown in the auditorium will be provided via the use of electronic storyboarding, videos on inset wall-mounted monitors, and interactive displays. Harpers Ferry may have played a significant role in the design/planning. We can look to the Canyon VEC renovation and the new Old Faithful VEC for examples of the way Harpers Ferry is utilizing new approaches and new technology for visitor education.
