House finches are still busy in the thistle- patch behind the house. Haven't seen a goldfinch for a while though.

Swainson's were seen last week, possible Swainson's and/or other soaring raptors are here. Photo is of "our" female, giving me the stink-eye, one month ago.

Brewer's blackbirds and brown-headed cow birds are still busily working the lawns. We might have a starling or two as well.

I heard a killdeer the other day, perhaps the last for a while.

Herds of geese fly noisily overhead. Crows, ravens, and magpies will stay with us.

Robins have eaten all the worms in our yard and even the juvies are gone.

Red-winged blackbirds are gone.

Sun just came up over the mountains so I have to close the shade for a while so I can see the computer screen. Portents of another gorgeous blue day after weeks and weeks of haze and smoke and dangerous particulate levels and hot-dog-burning-up-in-a-campfire stink.

Intimations of fall indeed.
