399 had just one cub, dubbed Snowy because of its light color. Here is a portrait of Snowy, and 399's ample rear view.

This was the first and last look I got at Snowy, who, about 5 days later, was mowed down by a vehicle. It's not known who or what hit him/her, but 399 lost her only COY this year.

Given that 399 is 20 years old, many are concerned that this wonderful fecund road bear (to her detriment, obviously) may not have many reproductive years left. When she does go, it will be the end of a long, beautiful era for me and tens of thousands of others from around the world.
