Amber,

I have no firsthand knowledge of the rules regarding that water. I checked what's on the park website, and did not see any specific info. I have been trying to remember whether I have observed people fishing that water while I have been hiking through that area. My memory is not sufficiently reliable to lean on regarding the question. I do know it is a good-looking stretch of water. I know from having skied along there on numerous occasions over the years that the water is warm enough that there are numerous areas of open water in winter.

I am including a link to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, which has an article in it about the partial closing of fishing on a number of rivers in Southwestern Montana due to warm temperatures and low flow. I would have linked the article, but the URL is way too long for this page's parameters. These waters are all a long ways from their mountain sources. From my perspective, all the waters I have seen in Yellowstone are running higher than normal for this time of year, due to the cool, wet spring and several late season snowstorms. You might contact the Visitor Services Office (VSO) in Mammoth with your question. If they don't have the answer, they could direct you to the exact appropriate authority. Call (307) 344-2109.
