Now known as pleather, Naugahyde was new and populate in the mid-1950s-1960's. It was a lot cheaper and easier to live with than real leather upholstery. By the second decade of the 21st century, faux leather is probably even better evolved. For example, maybe this hang-out furniture in the Canyon Cafeteria is more resistant to ballpoint pen ink than its Mission 66 predecessor was.
