We spent time that afternoon getting some stuff done--laundry, wandering down to the cabin office to use the wifi to check and send some messages, a bit of shopping at the general store, and various napping and hanging out in the cabin. As the afternoon grew late, I wanted to head out for a bit of a hike. Nothing major, since I knew we'd be doing some sort of medium-ish hike the next morning, but something that would get us out of the cabin and into the air.

Colter Bay itself offers a number of options, of course, and most of them are fairly flat, which never hurts. Before the trip I had thought about doing some combination of the trails that criss-cross the Willow Flats area between Colter Bay and Jackson Lake Lodge, but it seemed that most of them were closed at the moment because of fuzzy brown critters in the area. Next thought was the trail out to Swan Lake and Heron Pond, but I've been on that hike several times before, including with Autumn and Madeline on our 2011 trip. Looking through my trail guide I found something called the Lakeshore Trail that sounded nice enough, so off we went.
