I carry bear spray, but I'm always concerned about wind drift. Sometimes you run into animals downwind but often times not. Additionally there is the distance issue. I believe it is recommended that the range (distance) to be 25 feet for the spray and of course it is very directional. Add to the above you have the expiration date issue which is around 12-18 months.
It seems that the air horn would not be limited by theses same issues, but would be subject to airline restrictions that have been a minor problem for air travelers.
May be logical to carry both, as conditions might favor one or the other, but I'd hate to be in a situation that required me to make a fast choice in an emergency.
