From a distance marmot pups DO look a little like bear cubs. Cruising up and down Pilgrim Creek Road looking for bears did yield a log full-o-marmots though.
It's odd how different species irrupt in different years. Last winter it was red foxes everywhere, this year it's marmots everywhere. You can expect whatever eats marmots to be very abundant next year.
