We arrived Friday the 8th at about dinner time and, after setting up camp in the Madison Campground and grabbing a quick bite, we took a walk through Midway Geyser Basin followed by a slow drive through Firehole Lake Drive as darkness closed in on us.

(A side note about Midway while it was relatively quiet Friday evening when we were there, it was unbelievable the volume of traffic lined up in both directions out on the Grand Loop Road both Saturday and Monday mornings, waiting for the opportunity to enter and circle the parking lot to look for a parking space. This and Artists Paintpots parking area were the two most over-crowded locations we encountered. I was also blown-away by the number of vehicles parked at the Fairy Falls trailhead just past Midway. I detest the thought of it, but if this becomes endemic throughout the park, some form of visitor limits may have to be used to preserve the visitor experience. But enough about that!)
