My mother-in-law is somewhat limited in her mobility, and the walk around Midway was a challenge to her. Fortunately, my wonderful wife had the forethought to borrow a wheelchair. On Saturday morning we arrived at the Old Faithful area at 9:30 and, with the help of the wheelchair and my more-than-eager-to-help sons for wheelchair pushers, we were able to show my mother-in-law a large portion of the boardwalks. We started by waiting about 30 minutes at Castle, which was a thrill to watch as our first geyser eruption of the trip. It is great to be able to be so close to the geyser when it erupts. Mother-in-law loved it!!

From Castle we crossed the Firehole River and were enjoying reading about the Sawmill Geyser complex in Janet Chapel s wonderful guide book Yellowstone Treasures (I never visit the park without it), when, just as predicted, Grand began to erupt. It was wonderful timing to be there for both Castle and Grand and the entire family was impressed by the height and volume of Grand. From there, and with the help of the wheelchair, we explored all the way down to Morning Glory Pool before returning for a quick lunch in the car near the Hamilton s store and service station and an obstructed view of an Old Faithful eruption. After lunch we went to Biscuit Basin to see the beautiful colored pools followed by a quick stop at Kepler Cascades and a drive toward West Thumb.
