The deck of the bridge has been rehabbed and is no longer like an amusement park ride to traverse, but the giant project of the last few years "at Fishing Bridge" actually focused on widening the road and adding pullouts (some with nice new clean vault toilets) from the bridge to Pelican Creek. The really important part of the project included removing the old highway that was positioned atop a berm that impeded natural water flow from Pelican Creek to Yellowstone Lake, and replacing it with a fantastic elevated causeway that permits much more natural hydrology in the area. And as usual when a new bridge or other major construction takes place in the park, all the adjacent natural areas have been so beautifully restored you can't tell where the old road and berm were.

I don't have photos of the new elevated causeway (though take it from me, it looks like it was always there), but I do still like walking around under Fishing Bridge itself. Great place to watch for otters and frogs (in the summer), I've even seen a bat flitting around over the water scooping up all the mosquitos and other bugs that the ubiquitous swallows might have missed.

Beautiful spot in the cool of the evening.
