Common names of plants frequently bring about confusion among flower lovers because they vary so much in different geographical areas. for example, this plant is also known by such names as Dogtooth Violet, Adders Tongue, Fawn Lily and Trout Lily. In both parks the plants are abundant above 7,500 feet. The yellow nodding flowers are on a stem 6 to 12 inches high, and this stem arises from a bulb several inches below the soil surface. The flowers open early in the season while the snow is still melting. {Plants of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks by Richard J. Shaw pg 90}
