Storm Point is a popular trail just east of Fishing Bridge area. After so many years of visiting, somehow we'd never done the Storm Point walk. However, once, years ago when I was out here by myself, I attempted the hike but just at the point on the trail where the road is no longer visible I came across a fresh carcass, so I did a U-turn, given the appeal of a free meal like that to a bear, and until now, I never went back. Now we carry bear spray and know how to use it.

The trail is a couple of easy miles along the scenic lake shore, revealing a thermal area on the beach, and then looping back through beautiful thick forest where we saw a snowshoe hare with a grayish-brown body and shiny white socks on all four feet, and a grouse of some kind. Both declined to have their pictures taken.

Anyway, no carcasses, bears, or bear sign this time. However there was, as everywhere in Yellowstone, plenty of bison poop though we didn't see any of the "producers." A woman was seriously injured by a bison on that trail very recently. It's not been made public how it happened, but she was airlifted to a major regional medical center, so it wasn't a minor incident.
