Friday - 28 ~ 31 May
My mother and I visited for three days in Yellowstone and two days in the Teton's.
Trip summary:
Grizzlies - sow with three cubs of the year (coy's) high in the steep bare hills south of Picnic area, sow with two coy's in a clearing south and east of Trash Can, sow with two coy's near Dead Puppy Hill (Ralph called tonight, apparently down to just one coy now), the sow with one coy that was on Junction Butte and Specimen earlier is all by himself - the sow must have been killed (Wayne was walking up Crystal and ran across it). We saw a courting pair on K Meadow.
Black Bears everywhere: sow with coy near Tower, sow with two yearlings near Yellowstone Picnic area, sow with two yearlings in Crystal, sow with two yearlings near the High Bridge near Mammoth.
Owls - great horned nest at Mammoth - 2nd house next to Visitor Center with three large chicks. A great horned nest in Gros Venture Campground in the Tetons with two (only saw one) chicks, and the great horned owl nest on the Teton Village road to Moose had fledged.
Wolves, 755M, 754M and 06 are now names as a pack - Lamar Canyon Pack, four pups.
Eagles - The golden eagle nest down the Slough Creek road is active, one medium sized white chick. The bald eagle nest north of Long Pullout has at least two very large chicks.
