Monday - 16 July

I left at daylight and stopped in Hayden Valley with no sightings. At 9:40 a.m. I a located a grizzly on the backside of Specimen Ridge viewed from Antelope Creek. Soon after I found another grizzly near the 1st, a smaller one. I originally thought that it was a sow with a yearling, but they slowly moved in opposite directions near the top of Specimen Ridge. At 2:30 p.m. I found a small grizzly south of trash can. At 4:45 p.m. I spotted a grizzly sow with two coy's on the ridge behind ski slope viewed from Dorothy's Knoll. At 5:00 p.m. I saw a black bear sow with two coy's south of picnic viewed from Dorothy's. At 6:20 p.m. we had a black wolf coming north in Cache Creek viewed from picnic area. At 7:20 p.m. I found a black bear south of picnic in the tree line. At 8:30 p.m. we had wolf 820F and a black yearling east of footbridge eventually crossing to the north. The weather is getting hot in Yellowstone. I spent the first three nights outside the park near Silver Gate and the last two in Pebble Creek Campground.

Tuesday - 17 July

At 5:25 a.m. I was moving west on the road near trashcan when I saw a grizzly coming out of the river corridor and moving towards the tree line. I walked up trashcan hill to get a better view. One grizzly on the way to the trees and two other grizzlies in the corridor the bigger one eating on something. Soon the second grizzly moved towards the tree line, but the last grizzly stayed there all day, eating on something small in the corridor. At 6:40 a.m. seven of the Lamar Canyon wolves crossed the road east of footbridge, and then played near the river for 30 minutes or so -- at least the four yearlings of the seven did. At 9:00 a.m. I had a brief spotting of a black bear with one brown coy crossing the diamond or square meadow (could have had a second cub, but a brief spotting).

Wednesday - 18 July

At 6:30 a.m. I started the day with a grizzly close to the road near picnic (same grizzly as yesterday, but now grazing). At 7:10 a.m. we had a gray wolf crossing the road near 21's crossing near hitching post. At 8:00 a.m. Wayne K showed me a small grizzly low and west in the A-Z meadow. At 10:30 a.m. we watched a small grizzly run across the bottom of the valley south of the Dorothy's Knoll then crosses the road to the north. At 2:30 p.m. I found a black bear on Druid Peak (first sighting on Druid Peak all year).

Thursday - 19 July

I walked up to trashcan hill just after daylight, but didn't spot anything around yesterday's carcass sight. At 5:45 a.m. I found a small grizzly south of Dorothy's Knoll, bedded but eating on something old. It eventually got up and moved west and crossed the road to the north. At 6:30 a.m. we had a grizzly sow with two coy's near ski slope feeding on grasses and flowers. At 9:00 a.m. wolf 820F, a black and a gray yearling north and east of footbridge moving and playing going east. At 6:20 p.m. I spotted a cinnamon black bear behind the east end of Jasper Bench in the big clearing. At 6:30 p.m. I found a grizzly sow with one coy behind ski slope. The grizzly sow with two coys was out again in the evening moving south in the 2nd clearing behind ski slope, and then near dark all the way back to the 3rd clearing behind ski slope.

Friday - 20 July

At 6:35 a.m. I started the day with a black wolf on Jasper Bench (probably a Mollie's in 777M group). At 6:40 a.m. I spotted a grizzly sow with two coys behind ski slope. At 7:15 a.m. we had a large black bear east of A-Z. At 5:00 p.m. we watched a grizzly sow with one coy in ski slope. At 6:30 p.m. my last sighting of the day was a lone grizzly on the 2nd ridge behind ski slope.

Saturday - 21 July

I made it a short day as I was heading home this morning. Arriving at Dorothy's Knoll I found a large grizzly moving south near the tree line south of the Institute. At 6:00 a.m. I spotted a grizzly sow with one coy in the bottom of A-Z meadow. At 6:15 a.m. I watched a grizzly sow with one coy near the tree line south of the Institute (first grizzly with coy down on the valley floor). At 6:45 a.m. my last sighting was a black bear crossed salad bowl.
