Saturday - 24 October

I left around 5:00 a.m. and made Moose, Wyoming just before daylight around 7:20 a.m. I watched a cow and calf moose near Jackson Airport. We had a big bull moose near Moose and a cow moose near Oxbow Bend. I glassed until after 10:00 a.m. then decided to go north into Yellowstone National Park. I found a grizzly in Pelican Valley viewed from Lake Butte (a long ways to watch a grizzly, and I was hoping that was not my final grizzly for the year). Around 12:30 p.m. a saw 755M and a gray pup of the Wapiti Lake pack from Grizzly Overlook in Hayden Valley. Near the horse corrals south of Canyon Junction the young grizzly from a week and a half ago was still near the roadside. I headed outside the park north of Gardiner for the evening watching. Jack G found the grizzly with the three yearlings (the set with one really blond cub). Near dark Jack G found the grizzly with two coy's. I camped near Gardiner for the evening and had hunters arriving at La Duke as I left there Sunday morning. I did have a fox in the Teton's this morning and a coyote and wolves in Yellowstone, so a THREE DOG DAY today.

Sunday - 25 October

I found a cow and calf moose early this morning outside the park. Today was opening of elk season but I decided to look for grizzlies outside the park again this morning. The grizzly with two coy's was still in the same field at daylight. Two separate grizzlies were also in the field when I could see the field. The viewing did not last long as all the grizzlies were out of sight by 7:35 a.m. They disappeared just before the shooting started. I headed into the park and arrived at Hellroaring Overlook just as Calvin and Lynette J and Colleen were about to leave. Lynette said they had a grizzly in view and set the scope up again to locate it for me. She couldn't find the grizzly but spotted a black and a gray wolf pup, probably from the Prospect Peak Pack. The sighting was far to the west so we moved east to Lower Hellroaring to scope. I viewed the black pup for a second, and then Calvin and Lynette found two grizzlies crossing the clearing, separate, and a larger grizzly following a smaller grizzly. Some ravens in the area but I don't think they had a new carcass (none of the adults were in the area). Just as I was leaving, Calvin found another grizzly, this one moving east towards Little Buffalo Creek (a big grizzly, and my last grizzly for the year).

Other News

Dunraven Pass is now closed. Some bears have been seen every day. Today Rick M had a grizzly in the Soda Butte Valley, and Calvin and Lynette found a grizzly near Grizzly Overlook after noon.
