October 19th - Sunday

33 degrees in Silver Gate this morning warming up to 55 degrees out in the park this afternoon. No wolves spotted in the park today. The watchers spread out all over the park and had nothing. At 7:25 a.m. I found a grizzly digging in the Bowl near Little Tree/Big Tree. It was in view for a long time this morning. At 7:45 a.m. Frank H found the tall grizzly crossing Amethyst Creek. It had bedded down by the river corridor and at daylight moved into the trees. It came out again and was in view walking to the west to 1:00 p.m. when it disappeared above Fisherman's Pullout. At 12:10 p.m. Andrea B called with a medium sized grizzly north of Soda Butte East Pullout. This bear was fairly close viewing as it was digging and moving a little to the east.

October 20th - Monday

30 degrees this morning in Silver Gate warming up to 46 degrees in afternoon out in the park. I had a golden eagle in a tree to the north of the Confluence this morning. I watched a cow moose with two this year's calves on the west end of Round Prairie; it was the first time I have seen this family. Limpy/Tripod the male limping coyote was out several times near Trashcan Pullout today. At 8:45 a.m. I found some the Junction Butte wolves north of Boulder Pullout heading for the Trough. Today it was five blacks, most of them pups, and 1484M was the gray in view today. Not a long view but a lot of people got to see them from Boulder Pullout as well as Rick's and Elk Creek Pullouts. At 9:30 a.m. I found a grizzly about one quarter of mile to the east of where the wolves disappeared. Only Frank H and I were able to see it, a brief sighting. At 12:00 noon Bruce and Maryjean Mc told me about a grizzly near the Trout Lake Pullout. When I arrived, it was out of sight, but Jeff B called as it reappeared north of Round Prairie, this was the Ice Box Canyon grizzly, medium sized. Around 1:00 p.m. I pulled into Upper Hellroaring Pullout. Jeff A had told me that a grizzly or two were in view. When I arrived Dale and Fay B first showed me two grizzlies digging high on the west end of Hellroaring Slope. They said the two grizzlies had approached each other before I arrived. As I watched the more colorful grizzly approached the darker grizzly who moved off out of sight. Then Fay showed me a third grizzly digging in a high clearing to the east covered with snow.

October 21st - Tuesday

29 degrees in Silver Gate this morning warming up to a nice 61 degrees north of the park this afternoon. At 9:25 a.m. I again found some of the Junction Butte wolves north of Boulder Pullout heading for the Trough. Again, five blacks, mostly pups, and 1484M the gray. A briefer sighting today and not a lot of people got to see them. I decided to go north of Gardiner to search for grizzlies. I ended up with eight grizzlies this evening: a sow with two large yearling cubs, a sow with three cubs of the year and a large grizzly.

27 degrees in the morning north of the park warming up to a nice 61 degrees back in the park this afternoon. I watched twelve grizzlies this morning north of the park: a sow with two large yearlings, a sow with two smaller light-colored yearling cubs, a sow with three cubs of the year and two single large grizzlies. Back in the park I missed the Junction Butte wolves as others saw fourteen blacks and two grays, missing only 1478F. They were in the area of the Trough again and were chasing elk. I only spotted two foxes on the way back to Silver Gate this evening.
