Monday - June 14th

50 degrees in Silver Gate this morning warming up to 90 degrees. I watched a killdeer this morning and Randi M found six bighorn rams to watch later in the morning from Slough Creek. At 4:45 a.m. in the dark we had a black collared wolf walk 25 yards pass us then cross the road to the north at Dorothy's Pullout. At 5:05 a.m. Gary G found the Middle Ridge grizzly sow with two cubs of the year (coys) at the top of A-Z Meadow viewed from Coyote Overlook. At 5:35 a.m. I found a colorful grizzly in the Bell viewed from Coyote Overlook. At 5:40 a.m. we had a black wolf this side of the river south of Dorothy's Pullout. At 6:05 a.m. I found the Specimen Ridge grizzly sow with two coys on the lower park of Divide Ridge (Salad Bowl). At 7:00 a.m. Randi M found the grizzly sow with two coys in the large aspen drainage east of the Slough Creek den. At 7:10 a.m. a cinnamon black bear was located watching the grizzly family in the aspen drainage. The grizzly sow soon noticed the cinnamon black bear sitting watching them, but soon the cinnamon black bear moved off smartly. At 6:35 p.m. I found a grizzly digging on the skyline above the Snow Cornice. A long look but with the grizzly on the skyline it showed up really well. At 7:00 pm. I found the courting pair of grizzlies on the first skyline meadow east of Penny Lane. Good viewing and lots of people got to see them.

Tuesday - June 15th

46 degrees in Silver Gate warming up to 90 degrees. I had a THREE DOG DAY today. At 5:05 a.m. Gary G found the Middle Ridge grizzly sow with two coys near No Bear Meadow viewed from Coyote Overlook. At 6:50 a.m. I found the courting pair of grizzlies again on the skyline clearing just east of Penny Lane viewed from the Confluence. At 7:30 a.m. I found the Specimen Ridge grizzly sow with two coys again low on the Divide Ridge (Salad Bowl) from Coyote Overlook. They soon moved west, and we had to go to Slough Creek to watch them. They were in and out of view most of the day on the Divide Ridge viewed from Slough Creek. At 9:30 a.m. a cinnamon black bear created a bear jam in Lamar Canyon. At 1:15 p.m. another bear jam, this one at Phantom Lake with a black bear sow with two black coys. This was from 4:30 p.m. thru 5:30 p.m. I watched two black and three gray adults and three gray puppies at the Slough Creek den area.

Wednesday - June 16th

55 degrees in Silver Gate this morning but only 45 degrees in Lamar Valley warming up to 84 degrees; not warm but pleasant because of a nice steady breeze. At 5:10 a.m. I found the Middle Ridge grizzly sow with two coys in a small clearing east of No Bear Meadow. A brief sighting but around noon they spent over an hour in the Bell viewed from the Institute. At 5:40 a.m. Wayne K found a colorful grizzly digging in the Bowl viewed from the Institute. This grizzly remained in sight for well over an hour. At 5:40 a.m. Wayne K had wolves moving east near the Chalcedony Fan. I only saw three blacks, but others counted ten wolves chasing bison. After a few minutes they disappeared and were not seen again today. At 5:50 a.m. we had a courting pair of black bears, a black boar and a cinnamon sow low in the Bowl. At 6:15 a.m. I found the courting pair of grizzlies again in the skyline meadow east of Penny Lane viewed from the Confluence. At 8:00 a.m. Evan S found the Specimen Ridge grizzly sow with two coys on the Divide Ridge (Salad Bowl) viewed from Slough Creek. This grizzly family was in view for most of the morning. At 8:30 a.m. two gray puppies were visible in the Slough Creek den area. At 11:15 a.m. Randi M showed me a cinnamon black bear sow with one cinnamon coy just east of the bottom of the Diagonal Forest. We guessed that this cinnamon black bear was the one sitting watching the grizzly family two days ago in the aspen drainage east of the wolf den. At 3:15 p.m. we watched a large cinnamon black bear on the south side of the road at Upper Barronette. At 5:30 p.m. the limping gray wolf moved west from the den area with a black wolf which I did not see. At 7:35 p.m. I found a grizzly walking the Snow Cornice just below skyline from Footbridge Pullout.

Thursday - June 17th

46 degrees in Silver Gate but only 42 degrees in Lamar Valley warming up to a nice 82 degrees. I had a THREE DOG DAY today. At 5:20 a.m. Wayne K found a courting pair of grizzlies in the Bowl from the Institute. It looked like the small one that Wayne found in the Bowl yesterday. At 5:25 a.m. I found the top half of a grizzly on the skyline on the top of Bear Meadow. The bear was a grizzly, but we never could see the entire body to determine size. This grizzly was in the same area of the Middle Ridge grizzly sow was yesterday, but again we did not see any coys. The Middle Ridge grizzly sow with two coys was not seen today. At 5:30 a.m. we had a black wolf this side of the river from the Institute moving east. At 6:40 a.m. a brief sighting of a grizzly on the skyline above the Snow Cornice viewed from Footbridge Pullout. At 7:30 a.m. I found the Specimen Ridge grizzly sow with two coys on Middle Ridge viewed from Coyote, Dorothy's and later Lamar Canyon West. They were in sight for well over an hour but they stayed behind a bunch of trees for a lot of that time. At 7:40 a.m. we sighted another black wolf this one on the east end of Jasper bench. At 7:50 a.m. Randi M and I found a dark grizzly digging on A-Z Meadow good viewing for almost an hour. At 9:30 a.m. I spotted a black bear high above the Slough Creek end viewed from Lamar Canyon West. Also, at 9:30 a.m. I found a black wolf above the cliffs of the Slough Creek Den.
