30 degrees this morning in camp warming up to a pleasant 67 degrees. I had two foxes on the road going into the park this morning. I had a THREE DOG DAY today as well. At 6:55 a.m. I found the Middle Ridge sow with two cubs of the year low in No Bear Meadow viewed from the Institute. They were moving west today and in view for over three hours moving thru The Bowl. At 7:00 a.m. five Junction Butte wolves were seen in the Old Druid Rendezvous area. At 1:45 p.m. I found a grizzly in the tree line west of Chalcedony Fan viewed from the Confluence. This grizzly was again in sight from 5:00 p.m. until dark at 7:35 p.m on Amethyst Bench. At 6:05 p.m. my last sighting for the day was a black bear near Crystal Creek viewed from Slough Creek restroom.
Friday - September 24th
28 degrees this morning in camp warming up to 73 degrees. At 8:00 a.m. Richard and Rita found a grizzly south of Crystal Rock viewed from the Slough Creek Restroom. At 8:10 a.m. Richard and Rita R found the Middle Ridge grizzly sow with two cubs of the year running from the lone grizzly who appeared not to notice the grizzly family. They all went out of sight, but this evening the lone grizzly was back south of Slough Creek still eating berries. Soon after they disappeared this morning, I went to the Slough Creek restroom and found the grizzly family again this time just west of the Crystal Drainage. Unfortunately, we did not find the grizzly family again today. Shaun W from Oklahoma did see them go over the top of Middle Ridge at 6:45 p.m. At 11:00 a.m. I found a black bear sow with a light cub near Crystal Drainage from the Slough Creek restroom. A note about the wolf hunt that opened in Montana on September 15th. One gray and one black pup were taken outside the park basically north of Slough Creek. They were Junction Butte puppies. At 1:00 p.m. we had a black wolf that looked like a puppy in the old Druid Rendezvous area. At 6:30 p.m. four gray and two black puppies (the new total of pups for the Junction Butte pack), plus one gray and one black adult in the old Druid Rendezvous area. At 7:10 p.m. we had a black bear in the Crystal Drainage viewed from the Slough Creek Restroom.
